Talent: Lisa
This short documentary was made as part of my application to the Netherlands Film Academy (2025), for the Cinematography program. One of the assignments was to create a short documentary within ten days without a crew.
I was given 3 different subjects to choose from, I choose the subject birthplace and after some brainstorming contacted Lisa. She uses clay from the river near her birthplace to make cups and pots. In which she then engraves the course of the ijssel from which she sources the clay.
Shooting went smoothly. Working solo and under pressure forced me to make quick decisions and stay close to the core idea. I had to rely fully on natural light, which shifted how I looked at every frame. That part was especially insightful.
While editing the film I stayed in close contact with Lisa to make sure her story was told honestly, while still leaving space for silence and suggestion.
I'm happy to share that I was accepted into the Netherlands Film Academy.
